Nominate a project for a Good Brick Award

Nominations for the 2027 Good Brick Awards are open now and are due by 3 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2026.

Preservation Houston has presented the Good Brick Awards since 1979 to recognize outstanding contributions to the preservation, restoration and enhancement of Houston's architectural and cultural heritage. Anyone may submit a nomination; nominating yourself will not affect your chance of receiving an award.

Who and what can be nominated

The Good Brick Awards recognize building restoration and reuse projects, but also craftspeople and design professionals, preservation leaders, exemplary property stewards, and preservation-related projects and publications. Although historic buildings are generally considered to be 50 years or older, significant newer projects may qualify.

Building and physical site projects must be located in Harris County and must have been completed within five years of the year of nomination (2022–2026). Non-building nominations should have a clear connection to Houston or Harris County. If you are nominating a property you do not own, the signed approval of the current owner is required.

How to nominate a project

Nominations are submitted using our online nomination form. Before you begin, have the following ready:

  • Project information: The property owner and address (if applicable), year of completion, and the names of people who worked on the project.

  • A project summary statement: A statement of 500 words or fewer explaining why the project or person you're nominating is worthy of a Good Brick Award. If you submit a longer statement, the jury will only see the first 500 words.

  • Images (if applicable): Images or illustrations are required for building projects and may help the jury understand other types of projects. You'll lay your images out in sequence with captions and credits in a PDF, and submit that PDF along with high-resolution digital files of every image included.

  • Copies of a published work: If you are nominating a published article, book or film, you'll need to submit a digital copy or enough physical copies for every juror.

  • Permission of the nominee: You must certify that you have the permission of the nominee — the property owner, author/publisher, project leader or other person or entity — before submitting.

A nonrefundable $150 fee is required and may be paid by credit card at the end of the form.
