Virtual Workshop: An Introduction to Online Historic Resources

Are you curious about the history of your home, but aren’t sure where to look for information? Join Preservation Houston and the Houston Public Library’s Houston Metropolitan Research Center for a virtual workshop at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 27, outlining some of the research materials available online and how they can help tell the stories of historic properties.

During the workshop, HMRC Architectural Archivist Samantha Bruer will discuss online resources available free of charge to anyone with an HPL MY Link card, including maps, historic newspapers, city directories and genealogical databases. Using Houston houses as examples, Bruer will explain how to work with these resources and the information they contain.

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A with Bruer, PH Community Outreach Coordinator Saneea Sakhyani, and Lin Chong of FW Heritage, who has experience researching historic homes that her company has restored.

This program will be presented via Zoom. Registrants will receive additional information, including a link to join the program, no later than the morning of May 27.
