Reviving the municipal song and touring a landmark: August PH news

'The best, best place of all creation'

In March, Preservation Houston donated the restored 1915 prototype of the city flag to Houston Public Library during a special event at the historic Julia Ideson Building. As a highlight of the program, PH Board member Dave Morris arranged for the Houston Saengerbund to perform the municipal song that was adopted at the same time as the flag. Houston Public Media brought Preservation Houston Acting Executive Director David Bush and the Saengerbund men's chorus into the KUHF studio and produced a segment about the municipal song for "Houston Matters." The feature aired August 16 and generated a very positive response from KUHF listeners — listen below.

A look at a Courtlandt Place landmark

On August 9, members of Preservation Houston's Pier & Beam next-generation preservationist group had the opportunity to visit the F.C.L. and Emilie Neuhaus House in Courtlandt Place before the new owners start their comprehensive restoration of the landmark home. The Houston Chronicle ran a feature on the project on Sunday, and CultureMap also covered the open house.

Preservation Houston is very grateful to homeowners Jerry Hooker and Jacob Sudhoff for graciously hosting the event and for their plans to restore this significant home.
