Join us Tuesday, May 19, for Preservation Houston’s annual member reception and meeting at the DeLuxe Theater, a Streamline Moderne landmark in the Fifth Ward. Opened in 1941, the theater stood vacant for four decades before its Good Brick Award-winning restoration in 2015. Between those chapters, it briefly returned to life in 1971 as the site of the “De Luxe Show,” one of the first racially integrated exhibitions of contemporary art in the United States.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a reception featuring drinks and light bites, and an opportunity to reconnect with fellow members. At 7 p.m. we’ll hold a brief business meeting. President Martin Gollwitzer and Executive Director Jennifer Kapral will share updates on Preservation Houston’s work and a look ahead as we approach our 50th anniversary. Kathy Flanagan Payton, president and CEO of the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation, will offer remarks on the theater’s history and the community it has long served.

This event is free and open to all Preservation Houston and Pier & Beam members and their guests. RSVP by Monday, May 18. If you aren't a member, please join before registering.
Directions and parking
The DeLuxe Theater is located at 3303 Lyons Avenue. Free parking is available in a surface lot at the corner of Gregg and New Orleans, behind the theater; additional street parking is available nearby.
