Pier & Beam July Happy Hour

  • No Vacancy 410 Main Street Houston, TX, 77002 United States (map)

Pier & Beam’s July Happy Hour takes us downtown on Wednesday, July 22, for an evening at one of Houston’s most imaginative bars, tucked inside one of Main Street’s oldest commercial buildings.

No Vacancy occupies 410 Main Street, a building that first appears on maps as early as the 1870s. Through the years it has housed a wide variety of tenants, including saloons, bookstores, jewelers and the Princess Theater, which specialized in all-day vaudeville performances. Beginning in 1915, it was home to the Barringer-Norton Co., a well-known men's clothing store. A Barringer-Norton ghost sign is still visible on the building’s north wall, while the business itself lives on today as Norton Ditto.

Today, the building is home to No Vacancy, an immersive cocktail bar that transforms the space into a fictional vintage roadside motel. Richly layered with crimson drapery, patterned wallpaper, vintage furnishings and playful nods to mid-century Americana, it feels part roadside motel, part old hotel lounge and part movie set — with every detail contributing to a world that is equal parts nostalgic, mysterious and theatrical. Even the private rooms are available to rent by the hour.

During the evening, we’ll hear about the inspiration behind No Vacancy from its team. Cassie Hoeprich, director of planning and economic development for Downtown Houston+, will also join us to discuss the Main Street Promenade, the project that transformed this stretch of Main Street into a more walkable, people-focused destination with wider sidewalks, expanded patio space for restaurants and bars, and dozens of new street trees.

We'll be at No Vacancy, 410 Main Street, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 22. Remember, P&B Happy Hours are casual: Come when you can, leave when you’re ready and pick up your own tab. We do ask that you RSVP to help us plan, and we hope to see you (and a friend) there!
