On July 30 and 31, appointed members of the Texas Historical Commission (THC) will meet in Alpine where they are scheduled to vote on State Antiquities Landmark (SAL) status for the Astrodome. Preservation Houston will be present at the public meeting and is asking that you sign this statement so that we can demonstrate to the THC commissioners that Texas cares about the future of the Dome.
Chronicle reports on proposal to demolish Astrodome
According to the Houston Chronicle, Harris County Commissioners Court was briefed earlier this week on a $66 million proposal to demolish the Astrodome and replace the stadium with green space. The plan was put forward by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Houston Texans football team. It is not clear how much the proposed demolition would cost county taxpayers or how much the Rodeo and Texans would contribute to the project. Click here to view the 37-page proposal.

Fretz to receive Mayor’s Historic Preservationist of the Year Award
Mayor Annise Parker has selected long-time Preservation Houston member and supporter Bob Fretz Jr. to receive the Mayor’s Historic Preservationist of the Year Award. The public is invited to attend the award presentation at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, during City Council’s Public Session at City Hall, 901 Bagby.
