Our Summer 2027 destination: Chicago, Sept. 15–19

Chicago has been building, inventing and rebuilding for nearly two centuries. In September 2027, PH Travels will explore the architecture, people and ideas that have shaped one of America’s great cities — and the ways Chicago continues to reinvent itself.

Our five-day visit will range from the landmark architecture of the Loop and the Chicago River to historic neighborhoods across the city, looking beyond famous façades to explore extraordinary interiors, ambitious preservation projects and places where artists and craftspeople transformed buildings into works of art. We’ll consider Chicago’s role in the development of the skyscraper, discover creative approaches to adaptive reuse and see how historic places are finding new purposes in a changing city.

Along the way, we’ll explore the city at several scales: from grand civic planning and monumental architecture to richly crafted rooms and intimate spaces. We’ll also look at preservation in action, meeting people who are working to protect significant places and discovering how Chicago is confronting questions of history, growth and change.

As always with PH Travels, we’re planning experiences that go beyond a typical visit, with expert-led tours, special access and opportunities to hear directly from the people who know these places best. There will also be time to enjoy Chicago’s museums, neighborhoods, food and remarkable lakefront setting.

The itinerary is still taking shape, but expect a trip that reveals Chicago from the inside out — a city of big plans, bold experiments, remarkable craftsmanship and an enduring appetite for reinvention.
